Ultimate Fighting Arts presents
Fights of the Century vol.2
Thailand v. Europe
Tape review by SDJ
Well, where do I start? The title promises "Fights of the Century" and it certainly lives up to its promise. The blurb on the back of the cassette box describes the video as a 'blow by blow record of the biggest fights from the World International Championships' and again it delivers! This is a video of the Thailand vs. Europe Championships held in the Aston Villa Exhibition Centre, Birmingham last year. It has been filmed from the very best angles and is well edited ensuring the best view for all of the non stop action, along with sound which unlike most fight videos does not fade in and out making you turn the volume on your telly up full blast!
The fight card has five fights on it all under full contact Thai Rules (knees and elbows to head allowed) and each one is a spectacular display of the power and class that sets Muay Thai above all others. It is billed as Thailand versus Europe and boasts some of the very best Thai Boxers.
The full line up is:
Pornsit Somphet (Thailand) V. Boulem Bellani (Morroco)
Suraphong Artpru (Thailand) V Peter Crooke (England)
Wuthichai Sawaengwong (Thailand) V Jeffey Heyms (Holland)
Burpha Phonyiam (Thailand) V Warren Brown (England)
Phinit Somphet (Thailand) V Patrick 'the viking' Erikson (Sweden)
I am not going to give away too much but will say it is an absolute mustfor anyone even remotely interested in seeing two men beat the living hell out of each other with awesome skill, whether you be a martial artist or not! And if you're not interested in that sort of thing then buy this video, 'cause it'll change your mind!
I was very keen to watch this video as I was due to watch the tournament myself last year to follow the fight career of the excellent Neil Woods who unfortunately had to pull out due to injury and so I didn't go. He was replaced by the young Warren Brown, who I watched recently up in Frodsham, win against a Dutch fella (see fight reports page - Ed.) Warren gives a preformance which he can not fail to be proud of and which is easliy the fight of the video. All of the fights are commentated on by Sandy Holt, who gives his usual enthusiastic performance as a video commentator, which I found personally possibly a little too much in places. All being said it is an absolutely fantastic fight video with superb visuals, sound, commentary and fights.
