Kings of Muay Thai, Volume Three (Kick Fighting Films)

Tape review by SDJ

This video, if I remember correctly is from a series of four, all of which showcase some of the best Muay Thai fights ever seen (apparently!). Video 3 treats us to a 6-match card of World Championship Muay Thai Boxing. I have no idea when this tournament was held but through a series of studies on the nasty perms and heavy makeup on the ring girls, I would say it can only be the Eighties! It features fighters from Holland against Thailand and was held I would say in Holland too. The commentary, which is only present for some of the fights, is in a language unrecognisable to me so that wasn't much help. Still, who needs someone talking over the fights to tell you what's going on, nine times out of ten the commentary gets in the way of the action! (no reference there to any other videos!!). On the back of the video the blurb says "Competitors have to achieve a minimum number of kicks and hits to score points so the action is non-stop." Is it just me or do they seem to have got Muay Thai mixed up with some other slightly inferior ring sport?

The fight card line up is:

Holland Thailand

Rob Kaman v Changphuak Kiartsongtit
Brian Peters v Petdam
Tommy v.d. Berg v Charoen T. Kiartbanchong
John Fortes v Kong Teranie
Ramon Deker v Namphon
Michael Lieuwfat v Rambo

As with other fight reviews, it is not worth me going into great detail about each and every fight, I will just give my opinion on the video as a whole and compare it to others I have seen. Basically, it is not the best fight video to buy, if you are after your first one which will contain high quality bouts between some of the best around. If that is what you are after, your first fight video, may I be so bold as to recommend the Fight of the Century II video also reviewed here. In my opinion the fights aren't all that, a bit scrappy and a bit dull (not that I'm saying I could do better! I'm not!). As I said it does appear to be a good 20 years old going on hair do's (or should that be hair don'ts?). If you are keen to have a good video collection then there is nothing wrong with this video, it is a lot better than some (like Chuck Norris presents Kick-boxing, which I reviewed but Dan refuses to put up!!). So to finish, not a bad video, not THE best by a long way but in no way terrible, buy it if you wish I would prefer to watch the Fight of the Century II Video.
