Rob Kaman History
Rob Kaman was born on 5th June 1960 in Amsterdam. A former Ajax Amsterdam Youth player at the age of sixteen he decided martial arts was where his real interest lay. Kaman first trained in Penjak Silat, an Indonesian art but it was in 1978 when Kaman started training at Mejiro Gym with the legenedary Dutch trainer Jan Plas.
After only four months training Kaman had his first fight against Carillon of France and he lost on points. Losing that fight and how he revamped his training afterwards to go on to acheive what he did is a testament to the Kaman's character. Kaman soon was fighting A-class and winning lots of his fights by knockout. Kaman's first international scalp was Blicky Rodriquez, cousin of Benny urquidez and after that he went to fight in Thailand.
Kaman had his retirement fight in 1999 against Alexi Ignashov of Belarus, the soon to become K1 star. It is a testament to Rob Kaman's character that at the end of the fight he was awarded the decision but handed his trophy to Ignashov and said that he felt Ignashov was the winner.
Not only did he fight bu Kaman appeared in a number of movies. He appeared in Jean Claude Van Damme films such as Double Team, Legionaire and Maximum Risk. He also appeared alongside American martial art star Bill Blanks in Bloodfist in 1989.
