KO Gym moves to better premises
Ikusa- Future fighters, Velfarre, Tokyo, June 8th 2003
Report by Gareth Satankid
Kohiruimaki Takayuki ended a run of poor results that saw him lose 4 out of his 5 previous fights and fall out of favour with K1. Tonight he comfortably beat Iranian Shootboxer, Cyarimi under Muay Thai rules (70kg). All in all it was a scrappy affair, but Kohi dominated throughout to take a unanimous decision and giving Cyarimi a knockdown on they way, courtesy of a trademark highkick. Kohi showed flashes of the hot-headedness that he has been infamous for, and was eventually deducted a point for needlessly kicking the Iranian while he was down following a throw. However, he controlled the fight from start to finish from behind his rapid jabbing and superior kicking.
His next fight will be in August, again, at the Tokyo Velfarre when he will be looking to recapture the form that got him to world-class status.
Kohi's last 5 fights saw him beat Marino Deflorin but lose to Masato, Yasuhiro Kazuya, Kaolan Kaochivit and a heart-breaking 5th round KO loss to UK's Peter Crooke after being on the verge of a comfortable points victory.
Other fights on tonight's card included former Lumpini lightweight champ
Chandet Suphantaly outpoint rising Japanese fighter, Magnum Sakai in a
middleweight match and former Japanese great, Atsushi Tateshima lose on points
to Hayato Manda at 58kg.
