MTO Promotions in association with Keddles Gym will hold the
second in the series of Armageddon shows at York Hall in London on Sunday
16th May. Last year's August Armageddon was regarded by many as the muaythai
show of the year which featured 5 international bouts. York Hall is proving
to be the well known venue for muaythai in London having also hosted Bill
Judd's more recent top Thunder&Lightning Shows.
May Armaggedon
promises to take the quality of fights a stage further featuring 6 top
international bouts.
In the main event of the evening British number one
Kieran Keddle will face Canadian number one Trevor Smandych. Smandych is an
accomplished fighter being the current World Muaythai Council
Intercontinental Champion. He has beaten several Thai's under full thai
rules and has also beaten the extremely experieced Kurt Finlayson of
Australia who has over 60 fights to his name.
Erin Linley will fight
for the first time in Western Europe. Linley is a big name on the women's
muaythai fight circuit being a double world champion with both the WMC and
the WIKBA. Linley won her WMC title the hard way - beating Siriporn of
Thailand in her homeland to take the title! World Champion she isn't, but
double world champion in her corner she will have; Nicola Fearnley of Bad
Company Leeds will take a step up to face Erin Linley but Houghton-Smith is
backing her all the way. Lisa Houghton-Smith commented "I took a big step up
on only my sixth fight to fight Kim Messer on short notice and I'm confident
Nicola can step up as well. We are coming prepared for Linley and we have a
game plan." Fearnley, who is now on a deserved roll, goes into the bout
following her recent British title success in Warrington.
The ever
exciting Commonwealth Champion Michael Showers of Croydon will face a tough test
against Martin Hogan of Ireland in a WMTO European Championship bout. Hogan is
an accomplished fighter having fought here two years ago beating now British
number one Richard Cadden and many years ago having fought a very young Kieran
Keddle.
Sak "The Slayer" Nayagam will face Hogan's compatriot Seamus
Cogan. Cogan is a tough and highly technical fighter. He previously lost a very
close, and some said controversial, points decision to Warren Brown. Cogan also
fought on last years K-1 Max UK tournament losing on points to Tim Thomas having
taken the fight on only a couple of days notice. Both Cogan and Hogan hail from
the same gym orginally as Ireland's most successful ever Thai fighter Craig
O'Flynn.
Trisha McKeary will make a welcome return to London against
Rayelene Kellock of Canada. McKeary fought in London last year beating Rebecca
Donnelly to take a British title.
The other confirmed international bout
will see Scott Clark of Canada face Daniel Paora of KO Gym.
All of
the Canadian fighters on the bill are from Mike Miles' National Kickboxing
Gym in Calgary. Mike Miles is a leading figure in Canadian muaythai,
promoting Canada's biggest shows with attendances of up to 3,000 people and
also the WMC representative for Canada.
The undercard features a host of
exciting domestic matches. Richard Fenwick of Keddles Gym, fresh from his
win against Mark Lee of Bad Company will be oput for revenge against Richard
Jones. These two met previously a couple of years ago with the little known
Jones suprisingly the local crowd to beat Fenwick. Since then Jones has gone on
to be something of a KO specialist famed for his heavy punching style. Fenwick
has gone from strength to strength since that fight with some highly technical
performances.
WPKL and WMC European Champion Paolo Da Silva of Crawley
will go up against Gavin Bradley of the famous K-Star academy. Both fighters
are fast on their feet with an exciting toe to toe boxing style. This will be
a hard fast paced bout that could go either way.
