Shakuta wins world title
By Tony Myers
Result 19th May 2001 WAKO PRO World title fight Walker(Trojan,
Wolverhampton, England) against Shakuta (Belarus) Milan, Italy.
Shakuta won a split decision against veteran Walker over five dramatic
rounds in Milan, Italy. The young but vastly experienced Shakuta(126
fights)started very strongly winning the first two rounds, with Walker just
defending. However, the third round saw a turn in events as Walker began his
attack. Just as Shakuta thought he was in for an easy night Walker turned
the tables wobbling the Belarussian who had to take an eight count toward
the end of the round. Walker continued his attack in the fourth and again had
Shakuta reeling. Shakuta again had to take another eight count and was very
close to being stopped during this round. The first half of the final round
saw Walker again dominating but as the round went on Shakuta began to have
attack once again. Although this time his attacks had no effect on Walker,
who was able to walk through them. Questions have to asked about the scoring
in this fight with the Belarussian taking two counts and still winning
clearly on two judges score cards.
