Woods wins K-1 UK Max
On the 18th November
2002England
held it’s first K-1 MAX event in the country with eight of the countries top
fighters competing. K-1 Max is an exciting new K1 tournament with a weight
limit of 70kg, giving the lighter fighters a chance to compete in a tournament
in K-1 Rules. Many fans so far are finding the lighter weight tournaments fought
at a faster pace and more exciting technically. Neil Woods came back from an
eighteen month layoff from the ring to blister through the tournament stopping each
opponent.
In the opening round Neil Woods (Former European Champ, Kaobon,
Liverpool) stopped Neil Jukes (British
Light Middleweight Champ). Daniel Hudson (Commonwealth Super Welterweight
Champion) won a points decision against Leon Chavallier (KO Gym). Kevin Harper
(WKA World Champion) won a tough first round draw against Eval Denton (Former
double world Champ). John Hale (British Champion) beat Danny Byrne (Commonwealth
Champion) on points. In the semi-finals Neil Woods stopped Daniel Hudson with
low kicks in the second round and Kevin Harper stopped John Hale in the third
round with low kicks also. The final match was an action packed toe-to toe war
with Woods stopping Harper in the final round with low kicks.
Also on the show
Kieran Keddle (WAKO-pro Welterweight World Champion) lost a points decision to
Farid Khider (French number 2) under full Thai rules. Woods next fight is
against a Thai in Manchester, >England in late February, Keddle faces a Thai in
